Clayton Kershaw cruised to another victory today throwing 7 1/3 innings for his 5 th win. The
offense was on fire scoring 5 times in the ninth including Cody Bellinger’s grand slam to put game out of
reach. This brings up a problem the dodgers are going to have as soon as Adrian Gonzales comes off the
DL. Bellinger has been red hot and has done everything he can do in the minors. A possible move could
be Toles who at this point is hitting .261, or Yasiel Puig. Puig in his short career has a batting average of
.284 with 62 home runs and 211 RBI’s.
Whatever they decide could depend on the next few weeks. Puig scores very high on the 5 tools
of power, speed, batting average, arm strength and defense. But it’s the 6 th tool that could do him in,
and that is heart. Heart is my favorite of all of the tools, but one of the hardest to quantify into numbers.
What I mean by this is does he hustle all the time, does he play when he’s hurting, or is he a good
presence in the dugout. Can he be a leader? What is his attitude like? All of these questions will be
answered before any moves are made, but it’s a good problem to have.
