Urias impressive start

Urias impressive start

  • Julio Cesar Urías
  • Born: 8/12/1996 in Culiacan Rosales, Sinaloa, Mexico
  • Debut: 5/27/2016

It took 10 innings and a double by Austin Barnes scoring Ross Stripling for the Dodgers to defeat

the Pirates. The unsung hero of this game was the young left hander Julio Urias who took a no-hitter

into the sixth inning only to see the effort go by the wayside as Avilan blew the save. Urias gave up one

run on a hit with five strikeouts, as well as the all-important ERA of 1.06. Over the Course of his young

career he is 5-2 with a 2.97 in 94 innings.

The 20 year old has a bright future in this league as he has 9.19 strikeouts per 9 innings. But the

4 walks per nine innings is a little high. In my opinion nothing good happens when you give a team a free

pass especially early in the inning. Urias has a four pitch arsenal lead by the fastball which averages 93

mph thrown about 56% of the time. This is followed by a Curve ball 15% at 76 mph, Slider 14% at 87

mph and a change up 15% of the time at 81 mph. As you can see Urias uses the fastball to set up a nice

slow curve to throw the timing off. But the slider is very complimentary to a fastball with the movement

coming in on right handed hitters.
