The Dodgers beat the Pirates for their 5 th win in a row, as Kenta Maeda got his 3 rd win of the
season. The Dodgers have sole possession of second place behind the Rockies. It has been the young
bats that have been carrying the offense. Yasiel Puig is one of those young bats, and if he can stay
focused and positive he has the potential to be one of the game’s best. This year he has 6 home runs in
120 at bats. His Average is a lower than normal .250. Over the course of his young career he is at .285
with 63 homeruns and 213 RBI’s and a slugging percentage of .468.
He strikes out about 20% of the time, walks about 9% which shows more of an impatient hitter.
If you compare him to Mike Trout they have similar strikeout percentages but Trout walks 13% of the
time which shows in a higher Career batting average of .308, and this season Trout is hitting .355 with a
slugging percentage of .700. Puig’s plate discipline shows he chases balls out of the zone at 33% of the
time and in the zone at 77%. But as of this year he’s at 66% in the zone swinging which may be why his
batting average is lower than normal. He has a great arm and above average speed in the outfield. The
Dodgers hope he fulfills his potential and helps bring a World Series title back to LA.
