Dodger Vice-President and Hall of Fame manger Tom Lasorda spoke to the group before the tryouts began.

Included in the 107 athletes, young and old, were pitchers Rusty Meachem, Jeff Sparks and Bryan Rekar, outfielder Doug Jennings and infielder Alex Arias.

The hopefuls were tested for running speed, infield and outfield work and in the hitting cage.

The large group was cut down to two squads and a five-inning game was included after lunch.
