Expos edge by Dodgers 3-2

The Dodgers got strong pitching and nine hits but could only score twice on a two-run homer by Luis Garcia in the eighth inning.

Jose Lima worked the first four innings, allowing four hits and a two-run homer in the second inning. Montreal extended the lead with a run off Darren Dreifort in the seventh after Wilson Alvarez allowed nothing during his two innings of work. Tom Martin and Eric Gagne added scoreless innings but it didn't matter.

Wilkin Ruan singled twice and Joe Thurston added a single and a double.

In the last of the eighth, trailing 3-0, Jason Romano singled and Garcia, bidding for the righthanded slot on the bench, slugged a home run. The final six Dodger hitters were retired in order.

The loss drops Los Angeles to 5-8. After a 4-0 start they have lost eight of nine games.
