Nomo goes five but loses

Hideo Nomo (0-4) sailed through three scoreless innings but gave up a walk and a homer in the fourth and a solo homer in the fifth as the Dodgers dropped to 10-15 after an 11-4 defeat. The L.A. defense stumbled and Baltimore benefitted from three Dodger errors that led to seven unearned runs.

The Dodgers banged out an even dozen hits, including a single and a homer by Juan Hernanez and a single and a double by the ubiquitious Jason Romero, but left 10 on base. Jason Giambi laced a double, his first hit of the spring.

Steve Colyer was victimized by an infield error that cost him four unearned runs in the six that pretty much put the game on ice.

Paul Shuey also allowed a pair of unearned runs before Tom Martin pitched a shutout eighth.

Eric Gagne demonstrated he was, indeed, human by allowing his first runs of the season, although only one of them was earned, in the ninth. He also struck out three. It is the first run in eight innings off the 2003 Cy Young Award winner.
