Perez tough in clutch but Dodgers lose

Odalis Perez allowed three hits to the first three hitters he faced in the first inning but settled down, allowing only one run while fanning two. He worked five, giving up a single earned run and struck out seven without issuing a walk.

Jose Hernandez made a pair of costly two-out errors in the third inning on consecutive plays, handing the Tigers three unearned runs.

The Dodgers could manage only five hits, singles by Dave Roberts, Adrian Beltré, Juan Encarnacion, Olmedo Saenz and Jason Giambi, who was injured and left the game after his hit.

L.A. scored single runs in the seventh and eighth with Bubba Trammell's sacrifice fly the only RBI. Alex Cora and Jason Romano collected the runs. The Dodgers loaded the bases in the eighth with none out and came away with one run.

Darren Dreifort worked two innings and allowed a pair of runs and Duaner Sanchez gave up a three-run homer in the eighth.
