Minor League play begins

Dodger farm teams won three of four season-opening games as Las Vegas beat Portland 7-2, Jacksonville topped Tennessee, Columbus outscored Capital City 5-4 and Vero Beach lost 9-4 to St. Lucie.

Las Vegas 5, Portland 2 -- Edwin Jackson (1-0) fanned five and Koyie Hill and Chin-Feng Chen had three hits. Jackson allowed only three hits in his five-inning stint and Rick White, Matt Jarvis and Agustin Montero worked five scoreless innings in relief. Trailing 2-0, Hill tied the scored in the second with a homer. Chen led the 51s with a 3-for-4, RBI performance, including an RBI double in a four-run seventh, and center fielder Shane Victorino was 2-for-4, RBI.

Jacksonville 6 - Tennessee 2 -- The suns scored two runs in the first, fifth and eighth to earn their opening day win. Aaron Brown worked four innings, allowing three hits and striking out 10. Elvin Nina (1-0) won in relief and was followed by three other relievers. Willie Aybar singled twice and knocked in two runs and James Loney also had a pair of RBI.

St. Lucie 9, Vero Beach 4 -- The Dodgers led 4-1 into the sixth but a five-run inning off Beau Dennemille (0-1) put the Mets on top to stay. Clint Hosford allowed only a single and a homer in five innings while striking out seven. Russell Martin had three hits, including a homer, and two RBI. Joel Guzman homered.

Columbus 5, Capital City 4 -- The Catfish trailed 3-2 into the last of the seventh but scored three times and held on for the win. Brian Weeden started and allowed five hits and one earned run but left the game tied 2-2. Alvis Ojeda (1-0) earned the win and Jose Diaz saved his first game. Etanislao Abreu knocked in a pair of runs with a single and a triple. Jeromy Milons, Xavier Paul and Mike Nixon added RBI.
