Dodgers hire Communications VP

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that longtime Los Angeles-area publicist and sportswriter Gary Miereanu has been named as Vice President of Communications for the club, announced owner Frank McCourt. Miereanu will officially begin work on Monday, May 10, 2004. Miereanu will oversee all public relations activities for the Dodgers, including day-to-day media operations, publications and all new media.

He will also play a role in developing and implementing the team's marketing, advertising, broadcast and in-house entertainment activities.

"Gary's diverse media background and sports expertise will reinvigorate all of the Dodgers' public relations activities," stated McCourt. "His knowledge of 21st-century communications techniques will help us bring 'the Dodger experience' to all our fans effectively and creatively."

"It's an honor to return to the sports world as a member of Los Angeles' team, the Dodgers," said Miereanu. "I look forward to serving the communications needs of the organization, the players and Frank and Jamie McCourt, as well as expanding the Dodger's publicity horizons."

Miereanu most recently served as Director of Publicity for Walt Disney Television Animation and ABC-Cable Networks Group. His responsibilities focused on all aspects of comprehensive publicity campaigns for animated series and television specials airing on ABC Television Network, Disney Channel, Toon Disney and in syndication, as well as providing support for WDTVA-produced theatrical and video premiere releases. Miereanu joined The Walt Disney Company in 1997.

Miereanu began his professional career as sports editor of the Burbank Daily Review in 1983. Miereanu has 25 years of freelance credits, including work for Sport Magazine, Whittle Communications, the Los Angeles Daily News and nearly 100 different publications. He turned to full-time public relations work in 1988, promoting the activities of Centinela Hospital Medical Center and then Saint John's Health Center before joining the firm of Stoorza, Ziegaus & Metzger, where he was point person on such varied accounts as Prime Sports and Siegfried & Roy.

A graduate of California State University, Northridge (Bachelor of Arts Journalism), Miereanu has lived in the Los Angeles area for 43 years. He currently resides in West Hills with his wife and two daughters.
