Round Two, 2004 Draft

Round two of the 2004 Amateur Draft began on Wednesday, June 8. We will continue to update Dodger selections as the day goes along. First round results can be found in detail on this web site, or can be seen at the bottom of this article

Second Round

Round 19 - LHP David Price, Murfreesboro, Tenn,
Price had the misfortune to pitch for a losing team but had an 0.51 ERA and is rated the top high school player in Tennessee. He throws consistently in throws in the 90's and at 6-5, 190 is very projectable but he's signed with Vanderbilt and it will take quite a bit of money to get him away from that committment, hence his falling in the draft. --Bill Shelley.

Round 20 - RHP Mark Alexander, Uni of Missouri.
Probably it's because he's only 5-10 or possibly because he had Tommy John surgery after high school but righthander Matt Alexander from the University of Missouri would seem to rate much higher than the 20th round off his season in which he was 3-0, 1.93 with nine saves and a 52-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio.--Bill Shelley.

Round 21 - LHP Justin Simmons, Uni of Texas.
Simmons topped the nation in victories two years ago and helped the Longhorns win the 2002 College World Series. But since then he has recorded a 15-9 record and has recorded only 100 strikeouts in his last 174 inings.--Tot Holmes

Round 22 - RHP Kyle Wilson,UCLA
Wilson hasn't pitched much at UCLA but when he ratcheted up his velocity to 94-95 mph this spring, people took notice. He has closer potential.--Bill Shelley.

Round 23 - RHP Kenny Plaisance, La State-Eunice JC

Round 24 - SS Kody Kaiser, Santa Fe HS, Edmond, OK
Kaiser is only 5-9 but hits and runs well. However, he may attend the University of Oklahoma where his uncle is an assistant coach.--Bill Shelley.

Round 25 - OF Justin Ruggiano, Texas A&M

Round 26 - C Ben Petralli, Weatherford (Texas) HS

Round 27 - C Levander Graves, Dillon (S.C.) HS SC

Round 28 - 1B Brett Lawler, San Jacinto (Texas) JC

Round 29 - 1B Ryan Strieby, Edmonds CC, WA
Streiby is huge (6-6, 230) and has been propelling balls out of sight all spring. But he can be pitched to.--Bill Shelley.

Round 30 - SS Paul Gran, Bothell HS, WA

Round 31 - RHP Ryan Koch, Osceola HS, Pinellas Park, FL

Round 32 - RHP Mike Stutes, Lake Oswego HS, OR
Stutes is an extremely good athlete who both pitches and plays a regular positon in the field. He was also the quaterback on the football team. Committed to Santa Clara, he throws 90-93 mph despite the fact that he's only 5-11.--Bill Shelley.

Round 33 - 3B Joseph Campbell, Fremd HS, Palatine, IL

Round 34 - LHP Chris LeMay, Kwantlen College, BC

Round 35 - OF Lynn Henry, Buras HS, LA

Round 36 - OF Mike Burgher, Shorecrest HS, Seattle, WA

Round 37 - OF Jeremy Brown, Pratt CC, KS

Round 38 - 2B Justin Crist, Chandler-Gilbert, CC, AZ

Round 39 - RHP Michael Branham, Jesuit HS, Tampa, FL

Round 40 - SS Brandon Carter, Old Dominion, VA

Round 41 - RHP Troy Grundy, Carbon HS, North Price, UT
Grundy has seen his fast ball fluctuate between 85 and 94 this spring because of a sore arm. He's raw so may well be a draft-and-follow.--Bill Shelley.

Round 42 - RHP Chris Johnson, Cabell Midland HS, Huntington, WV

Round 43 - LHP Davis Bilardello, Vero Beach HS, FL
Davis Bilardello is the son of Dann, former big league catcher andcurrent manager of the Dodgers' Columbus farm team.--Bill Shelley.

Round 44 - LHP Kyle Rapp, Wabash Valley JC, IL

Round 45 - RF Michael Hernandez, Connors State CC, OK
