Dodgers Open in St. Louis Tuesday

The Dodgers will meet the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis (1 p.m.) in their first post season game since 1996. Odalis Perez will go up against Willie Wilson and will be followed by Jeff Weaver in the Game 2 on Thursday (3 p.m.) and Jose Lima in Game 3 in Los Angeles on Saturday. Perez is scheduled back on Sunday in Game 4 and Weaver will pitch on three days ret in Game 5 on Monday if necessary in St. Louis.

Manager Jim Tracy said that three-man starting staff would allow for a 10-man pitching staff with seven relievers, which allow Tracy to add Tom Wilson as a third catcher.

Kazuhisa Ishii and Hideo Nomo seem to be off the postseason roster. Elmer Dessens will replace Edwin Jackson as the long reliever. The complete 25-man roster will not be turned in until game day.

The Dodgers lost a meaningless game to the Giants on the final days of the season as San Francisco fell on Kaz Ishii, Edwin Jackson and Sammy Stewart like a pack of hungry wolves. Ishii allowed two homers in the first inning -- including one on the second pitch of the game and the second on the fifth pitch -- and since L.A. could only manage three hits with most of the regulars setting this one out, that was the game.

Steve Finley and Adrian Beltré were the only regulars in the starting lineup and after one plate appearance they were taken out.

Jose Hernandez doubled in the fifth for the first Dodger hit. Jose Flores got the second hit in the sixth and his first major league hit, when he singled. Jason Grabowski singled in the seventh for the final L.A. safety.

San Francisco was eliminated as the wild card when Houston completed a sweep of Colorado.
