His older brother Jesse was recently cut but in his first year as a professional, Casey Hoorelbeke made the impression that he could stay around and contribute. Like Jesse, Casey was signed rather late (at age 23) by scout George Genovese as a free agent but was moved quickly this past season Primarily a basket ball player at Lewis & Clark State, he's. possessed of a beter than average fast ball, a good curve and a developing change.

Casey began in the extended spring camp, was promoted to Columbus where he was 0-1, 2.57 in three games, then to Vero Beach where he became a regular member of the rotation, finishing with a 6-4, 4.01 record. As you might expect, he's an imposing figure on the mound, although he sometimes loses command. His father is Peter Rivera, lead singer of the group Rare Earth.
