In the final game of the year at Columbus, management acceded to Bailey's wishes and gave him a start. Hitherto a relief pitcher, he excelled, going 5.2 innings in which he allowed only three hits, one run, walking only one while striking out seven. No one was really surprised; it's the type of performance this power lefty is capable of doing.

Bailey is from Hawaii, went to North Idaho Junior College, was drafted way down in the 47th round in 2002 and was signed as a draft-and -follow the following year. He debuted by going 1-2, 2.57 with 43 strikeouts in 42 innings with Ogden (Pioneer). This past season he was briefly with Vero Beach, (3 games, 0-0, 3.60) before joining Columbus where he finished 2-3, 2.17.

Bouts of arm tenderness have slowed his progress a bit; however, when he's healthy and on his game he features an impressive fast ball. Now, they'll to see if his future lies in starting or relieving.
