Westervelt overcame an ankle injury suffered in his junior year at Stetson University to hit well as a senior (.380) and even better after he was drafted in the 11th round last June.

He's strictly an offensive player, generating good bat speed as a gap hitter with enough natural power to lift the ball out. He wound up with a .341 average that included 10 homers and 37 RBI. He possesses a good eye at the plate but is below average in the field although his arm strength is all right.

He's at his physical maturity now and the test of all such who succeed at this level is if they taper off aferwards. He would seem to be one who can do well at higher levels.
