He would seem to have all that takes to be a force. Certainly the body from which he throws into the mid 90's plus a slider that often is nasty. What he needs is experience.

After all, in high school he was more a shortstop than a pitcher although the Yankees saw the projection in his arm and drafted him in the second round in 2003. That took him away from football where he was a star quarterback. He was brought on slowly in the Yankee chain, then came to the Dodgers in the Kevin Brown trade.

This past season at Columbus was really his first taste of ful competiton. The results weren't overwhelming -- 7-9, 5.39 but the Dodgers feel he made steady if slow progress. Lack of command is the biggest problem (73 walks in 122 innings).

His expected maturity will hopefully see him smooth out. When that happens, he could move swiftly. In '05 he should advance to Vero Beach.
