The rapid develop of Abreau, who played this past summer at age 19, has projected him into the middle infield mix of the future.

From the get-go he's had a solid, quick line drive approach. It produced five triples while playing on the spacious fields the Gulf Coast entry uses when he broke in in 2003.

In 2004 he added strength which provided enough lift for eight home runs. He averaged .294 as a rookie , then was hitting .302 for Columbus this past season which earned him a callup to Vero. There, he quickly produced even more offense, finishing with a .419 average in the 11 games.

In the field, he 's played second for the most part, showing good hand, feet actions and turning the double play well. At Vero, he was thrust in at shortstop when Chin-Lung Hu went out with a sore arm and demonstrated that he has the range and arm for that position as well. He's also quick on the bases.

In all, a very good-looking young player.
