Dodger Prospect Marcos Carvajal

20th in a series as we count down among the top Dodger prospects.

Position- Relief pitcher
Residence-Bolivar, Ven.
DOB-Aug. 19, 1984
B/T- R-R
04 Club(s)- Columbus (low A); Jacksonville (AA)

Carvajal was used a s a starter in his first two pro seasons, then utilized in middle relief for the past two. He's succeeded admirably at both. Equipped with a prototypical pitcher's body, he throws the requisite fast ball in the low 90's and complements that with a hard slider. He possesses commendable command and challenges hitters.

He racked up ERA's of 2.12, 1.78 and 3.08 in his first three seasons, then this past summer was 4-2, 1.88 at Columbus with 72 strikeouts in the same number of innings. That earned him a late promotion to Jacksonville, where he threw three shutout innings.

If he isn't snatched up in next week's Rule 5 draft for which he is eligible, he has shown enough to seriously challenge for a spot on the Jacksonville roster, thereby skipping high A.
