Picked up from the Red Sox in exchange for Dave Roberts, he hit well enough at Las Vegas (.284) to merit promotion to the 40-man roster. Actually that was a bit below his norm for he'd averaged .296 over four previous minor league seasons.

Undrafted out of Clemson University, he was signed by the Astros as a free agent in 2000 and has since made his way through three other organizations. He's fast enough to steal bases and has gap power with an occasional home run. In the field, he's swift enough to play center and possesses an adequate-enough arm to play right.

He'll have to have an eye-popping spring to make it to L.A. as a reserve outfielder. Chances are he'll open the season in the Vegas lineup again.
