DeWitt followed Scott Elbert as Missouri high school products chosen in the first round by the Dodgers in 2004 as he was selected with the pick gained when the Yankees signed Paul Quantrill.

Considered to be a more advanced high school hitter, he certainly lived up to the billing as he stood in against many more experienced pitchers to hammer out a .284-12-47 season.

Batting from a straight-up stance, he has a line-drive stroke with the lift that supplied home run power. At first a pull hitter, he began staying back more against curve balls as the season progressed and spraying the ball to all fields. With a quick bat, he handled lefthanders very well.

A shortstop as an amateur, he was switched to third and handled the position in fine fashion. He has an adequate arm and the necessary quickness. Like all recent Dodger high round draft choices, he's dedicated, intelligent and possessed of a strong work ethic. Spring training will decide if he moves up to Columbus or skips it to open at Vero Beach.
