Danny Muggee Wins his First in a 13-2 Vero Blowout

The 51s were rained out and a landslide of unearned runs accounting for six runs cost the Suns a 9-4 loss. Vero used three home runs to help Danny Muegge earn his first of the year in relief, 13-2 and a bases-loaded hit-batsman gave Augusta their second last-of-the-ninth win over the Fish.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee--The series opener between the Nashville Sounds and Las Vegas 51s was postponed due to unplayable field conditions at Greer Stadium stemming from the heavy rains throughout the Middle Tennessee area. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The teams will play two seven-inning games

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama--With two outs, a pair of errors led to a six-run, fifth inning and eventually a 9-4 loss to the Barons. Suns starter Eric Stults (1-2) retired 10 in a row and shut out the Barons through four innings before the explosion that tagged him with the loss. Brian Sprout and James Loney made wild throws with two outs and that scored the Barons' first run. Stults then allowed four consecutive batters to reach, the final a three-run home run off the scoreboard in right center field. Joel Guzman was the designated hitter for the second consecutive game, and hit the first pitch of the sixth for his ninth home run. James Loney and Tydus Meadows had first-inning RBI. The loss for the Suns (16-20) postponed a chance to take over second place from the Barons. VERO BEACH, Florida--Vero banged three home runs to blast Sarasota 13-2 as Matt Kemp led the way with his fourth home run of the season. Kemp was 3-for-4 and drove in 4 runs. Chin-lung Hu also had three hits and scored three times. Danny Muegge earned his first of the year in relief. Sarasota used solo home runs to take the lead but in the bottom of the first, Tony Abreu led off with a 12-pitch at bat capped by a double off the center field fence. Hu followed with a 2-run homer to tie the score. Andy LaRoche then drew a walk and one out later Justin Ruggiano singled him to third. Jimmy Rohan's sacrifice fly to put the Dodgers ahead and A.J. Ellis singled in Ruggiano to make it 4-2. That was all Muegge and relievers Justin Simmons and Mark Alexander would need. In the fourth a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch made it 6-2. Russell Mitchel hit his first home run of the season in the fifth and A.J. Ellis drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth before Andy LaRoche blooped a bases-loaded single and Kemp delivered his home run to center field, capping the 13-2 victory.

AUGUSTA, Georgia--The Fish must be thinking enough is enough after Augusta won in the bottom of the ninth for the second night in a row. New Catfish RHP Kyle Wilson hit an Augusta batter with a pitch with the bases full to give Augusta a 4-3 win. RHP Blake Johnson started for the Catfish and fired five scoreless innings to start the game. However, he gave up a run in the sixth inning to snap his scoreless innings streak at 20. The Catfish are now 3-14 on the road and have lost six of their last seven away from Golden Park, all by one run. SS Lucas May drove home CF Jamie Hoffmann and 3B Blake DeWitt with a two-run single to center in the first and the game stayed 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth. Johnson gave up back-to-back hits and departed the game, RHP Brian Akin relieving and allowing a run. Augusta tied the game with two runs off Akin and LHP Carlos Alvarez in the seventh. Wilson came out of the bullpen for the Catfish in the bottom of the ninth and promptly struck out the first two batters of the inning. But a walk and an errant pickoff throw moved the runner to third. Two walks loaded the bases before Wilson plunked the next Jacket with a slider.
