Jason Werth Explodes to Stop Round Rock 8-4

Jason Werth banged out four hits, including a home run, and added five RBI as Las Vegas tagged Round Rock 8-4 behind Edwin Jackson. Eric Stults supplied six sparkling innings and Delwyn Young added a three-run homer as Jacksonville win 4-1. Vero was pounded Ft. Myer 15-3 but Andy LaRoche homered for the fifth straight game to give him a professional baseball-leading 18 HRs and Columbus won their second in a row as David Nicholson and Ryan Russ went 3-for-4 and Blake Johnson earned the win.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--The 51s defeated Round Rock Express, 8-3, led left fielder Jayson Werth who was 4-for-4, with a HR and 5 RBI. He hit a solo HR in the first inning and added a two-run single in the eighth and is 5-for-5 with 6 RBI over the last two games. It was Las Vegas' third straight victory overall and second straight over the Express in the series. The 51s, 22-22, recorded 13 hits with right fielder Jason Grabowski 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Second baseman Joe Thurston was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored. He was hit by a pitch and it marked his franchise career leading 50th. Right-hander Edwin Jackson pitched 5 solid innings to improve to 3-4. He allowed 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), walked 2 and struck out 3. Right-handers Steve Schmoll and Mike Neu each pitched a scoreless inning. Franquelis Osoria earned his sixth save.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama-– Delwyn Young hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie in the Suns' 4-1 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits. Young's home run was his seventh overall and second in two games. Starter Eric Stults allowed one earned run over six innings for the third consecutive time vs. the Biscuits, the league's top offensive team. Stults (2-2) earned the victory after being activated from the disabled list Tuesday. The bullpen was spotless, guided by Luis Gonzalez's two shutout innings. Beau Dannemiller pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his third save. --Ft. Myers knocked out 17 base hits and thumped the Dodgers 15-3 Tuesday night at Holman Stadium. The win snapped a 6-game losing streak for the Miracle and was only the third loss for the Dodgers in the last 12 games. Andy LaRoche homered for the fifth straight game to give him a professional baseball-leading 18 round trippers. Chuck Tiffany returned from the disabled list, and though he surrendered just one run in four innings he took the loss. Once Tiffany left the game, Ft. Myers exploded offensively, scoring two runs in the 5th and 6th before breaking the game open with eight in the seventh.

COLUMBUS, Georgia--The Columbus Catfish won their second straight game over Savannah, using a six-run sixth inning to defeat the Gnats 8-4. The Catfish 7-8-9 hitters combined for seven hits and six RBI, as 2B David Nicholson went 3-for-4 with an RBI, C Juan Apodaca drove in three runs, and RF Ryan Russ went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI. RHP Blake Johnson gave up just one hit in 5.2 innings before leaving with a mild ankle sprain, but picked up his third win of the season. The Catfish victory gives them a series split with the Sand Gnats, as they improve to 15-31 on the season, while Savannah drops to 22-23.
