Solid start for Raptors

OREM, Utah-- Juan Bustabad's sparkling new Raptors banged out a 7-0 victory in their opening game Tuesday night. Starter Mario Alvarez was stellar, allowing just two hits to spoil the defending champions' sold-out home opener in their new park and the Raptor bullpen gave up just one hit in the final four innings.

Seven of Ogden's hitters recorded hits, led by Australian first baseman David Southerland. He was 3-of-5 with two RBIs on a timely single in the third inning.

Third baseman Russ Mitchell slugged a home run in the second inning to give Ogden all the runs they would need. Jason Mooneyham followed with a double and scored on a single by Richmond for an earl 3-0 lead.

In the third, Juan Rivera singled and Jesus Soto doubled. David Sutherland singled them both across. Sam Steidl walked and scored on a home run by Juan Apodaca in the sixth. Jesus Soto walked, moved to third on a single by Sutherland and scored on a wild pitch to end the scoring.

Alvarez (1-0) fanned eight Owlz, owrking out of trouble with a strikeout when needed and completed his alloted pitches and five innings at about the same time.

He was followed on the mound by Cory Wade for two innings and Jordan Pratt and Aaron Klusman for an inning each. Raptor Notes: Cody White takes the mound for the second game of the series. White will be followed by starters Kristopher Krise (righty), Marion Arias (lefty) and David Pfeiffer (lefty).
