Kuo injures arm in Jacksonville loss

Portland handed Las Vegas and Derek Thompson a 4-2 loss and Jacksonville lost a doubleheader to Carolina 4-1 and 8-7 and may of lost Hong-Chih Kuo. Todd Donovan stole three bases including home and Edwin Jackson a 1-0 lead into the seventh but lost in the opener. St. Lucie beat Vero 5-3 as Anthony Raglani missed the cycle by a triple. RF Ryan Russ went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple but Columbus lost 5-2 to Greensboro. Ogden lost 6-0 to Casper stranding 13. The Gulf Coasties were open.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada--Portland ended a four-game slide by dumping Las Vegas 4-2 Sunday. Portland scored three in the third and the 51s fought back in the bottom of the inning when Dioner Navarro and Nick Theodorou singled and with two out, Willy Aybar smacked his 23rd double. Navarro scored but Theodorou was thrown out at the plate. They added another run in the fourth when Norihiro Nakamura doubled and Moved to third on a Brian Myrow single. Derek Michaelis grounds into a force out, scoring Nakamura to cut the lead to 3-2. Portland added a final run in the ninth off Beau Dannemiller. Derek Thompson (1-1) pitched well but suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings. The 24-year-old left-hander walked three and struck out three in his second start for the 51s. One of the organization's top prospects, Thompson opened the season at Double-A Jacksonville and was promoted to Los Angeles, where he started three games and had a 3.50 ERA. X-Files: The four-game series, which included three postgame fireworks shows, drew a total attendance of 37,347. ... The 51s (35-47) play 17 of their next 21 games on the road.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida-- Errors by the Suns helped the Mudcats to a doubleheader sweep, 4-1 and 8-7, in front of 8,203 fans Sunday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. In game one, the Suns took an early lead when Todd Donovan stole three bases -- including home -- after his lead off bunt single. Edwin Jackson (1-2) took the 1-0 margin into the seventh inning before allowing a game-tieing home run. When he allowed a walk, reliever Jonathan Broxton took over and walked the bases loaded. Broxton then threw a potential double play ball away, allowing two runs, and gave up an RBI single to give the Mudcats the 4-1 advantage.
The Suns scored five runs in the second inning of the second game. Eric Langill, William Juarez and Jon Weber each had an RBI in the inning. Weber added a RBI single in the fourth inning to extend the Suns lead to 6-0. The Mudcats battled back and a two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning off reliever and losing pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo (1-2) gave the Mudcats a 7-6 advantage. Kuo allowed three runs—two earned—in 1.2 innings while striking out four. Juarez started and pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs. Suns right-hander Eric Hull (5-4, 3.91 ERA) is scheduled to oppose the Mobile Baybears tonight at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile Alabama. Sun Spots: Kuo left the game in the seventh inning because he heard a pop in his arm and Luis Gonzalez recorded the final out for the Suns, There was no report on the severity of his injury. This is the first time this season the Suns were swept in a doubleheader. The Suns were 3-0 before today. VERO BEACH, Florida--The Mets beat the Dodgers 5-3 at Holman Stadium Sunday. Anthony Raglani went 3-for-4 and missed the cycle by a triple. Matt Kemp added two hits including a two-run homer, his 15th of the season. St. Lucie took a 2-0 lead in the first against Dodgers starter Julio Pimentel, the only runs he allowed in five innings. He struck out five, allowed five hits and two walks. Raglani's solo home run came in the second and Kemp's two-run blast put the Dodgers ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning. But Vero failed to score after that, leaving runners at second base with less than two out three times in the remaining innings. A two-run homer in the sixth inning off reliever Beltran Perez to put the Mets back on top to stay. Vero Beach manager Scott Little was ejected in the bottom of the eighth for arguing a called strike. There were several hotly contested plays during the course of the game. It was the third time this year Little has been tossed. Vero Beach will play the Mets in St. Lucie tonight.

COLUMBUS, Georgia--Despite scoring first for the first time in the four-game series, the Catfish lost 5-2 to Greensboro. The two teams split the four-game series. RF Ryan Russ went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple in the Catfish defeat. 3B Blake DeWitt drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. Greensboro promptly scored two runs on three hits off RHP Brandon Weeden in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Catfish tied the game when Russ doubled home CF Jamie Hoffmann in the fourth. Hoffmann's single with two outs in the inning extended his hitting streak to ten games. A Catfish error in the fifth inning led to an unearned run against Weeden and the Grasshoppers tacked single runs in the sixth and eighth to defeat the Fish 5-2.T he Catfish start the 12-game road trip, the longest of the season, tonight at Hickory.

CASPER, Wyoming-- Ogden fell 6-0 Casper Sunday afternoon, suffering their first shutout of the young season. The Rockies scored a pair of runs in each of the first, fourth and fifth innings and limited the Raptors' attack to five hits, all singles. The Raptors had base runners on in six innings but stranded 13 overall. Starter Kristopher Krise (0-1) took the loss and reliever Alvin Hayes took over in the fifth inning. Raptor Notes: The Raptors fell to 4-4 on the road this season. ... The Rockies, who committed 10 errors in a 7-6 win over the Raptors on Saturday, had just one error on Sunday. ... Saturday's loss ended Ogden's eight-game winning streak. ...Following tonight's game, Ogden will return home for a five-game homestand beginning Wednesday vs. Idaho Falls.
