Matt Kemp Hits 17th Homer in Vero Win

Vero's Matt Kemp went 2-for-4 including his 17th home run and Beltran Perez earned a 7-4 win in relief over Clearwater. Ogden dropped a 5-4 decision to Helena despite Andrew Locke's second homer. Josh Wall made his first professional start and Ivan DeJesus doubled home the only run as the Gulf Coast Dodgers lost 6-1. Las Vegas and Jacksonville were off for the All-Star Game and Columbus had an open date.

VERO BEACH, Florida-- Matt Kemp went 2-for-4 and hit his 17th home run to lead to Dodgers to a 7-4 win over the Clearwater. Beltran Perez turned in 3.1 scoreless relief innings to pick up the victory as the Dodgers improved to 50-34. Jamie Hoffman led off the first for the Dodgers with a single and eventually scored when he stole third base and came home when the throw went into left field. However Clearwater used a grand slam in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead, knocking Glenn Bott out of the game. Cole Bruce led off the bottom of the second with his second home run. A.J. Ellis reached on an error and scored on Anthony Raglani's triple. Hoffman's sacrifice fly to right brought home Raglani and tied the score. In the fifth, Jimmy Rohan led off with a double and one out later Kemp delivered his home run. Vero finished their scoring in the seventh when Tony Abreu reached on an error, went to third on a double by Kemp and scored on Cory Dunlap's sacrifice fly. The Vero Beach bullpen shut down Clearwater's bats after the second inning. Casey Hoorelbeke followed Perez with three scoreless innings of his own and Orlando Rodriguez struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth for his first save. The series continues Wednesday night at 7:00 PM at Holman Stadium.

HELENA, Montana-- Ogden's two-out rally in the top of the ninth inning fell a short and the Raptors dropped a 5-4 decision to Helena, It was their third loss in four games. Russ Mitchell was up in the ninth with the tying and winning runs on base but his long fly was caught on the warning track to end the game. Earlier in the inning David Sutherland had an RBI single to score Adam Godwin and Juan Rivera and cut the Brewers' lead to 5-4. Through four innings, Ogden starter Brent Leach (2-1) allowed just one run. But in the fifth he allowed a leadoff double and then walked a batter before serving up a three-run home run. The four runs allowed were the first Leach had allowed this year in over 20 innings. Raptors Notes: Ogden out-hit the Brewers 11-8. Sutherland led the Raptors with three hits, while Rivera, Mitchell and Godwin had two hits each. The Raptors' Andrew Locke belted his second homer of the year, a solo shot off the scoreboard in the fifth inning. ...
