Ruggiano, Billingsley key 6-0 Jacksonville win

Iowa handed Las Vegas their 70th loss 7-2, and Jacksonville topped Chattanooga 6-0 on Justin Ruggiano's home run and Chad Billingsley's seven shutout innings. Vero swept Daytona as Cole Bruce hit a walk-off home run in the first game and four more homers in the 14-5 second game. Columbus lost to Augusta 5-3 in the rain that saw 16 walks in five innings. Ogden beat Billings 8-3 as David Sutherland had three RBI. Arsmendy Castillo won his first for the Coasties, beating the Marlins 7-2.

DES MOINES, Iowa-- Las Vegas dropped their 70th game of the season, falling behind 6-0 after three innings en route to a 7-2 loss to the Iowa Cubs. Las Vegas couldn't get on the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Tony Schrager and Jose Flores walked, and Schrager scored on a throwing error. Henri Stanley later scored on a Norihiro Nakamura sacrifice fly. The Cubs scored two runs in each of the first three innings off starter Eric Stults (2-4). Las Vegas lost its fifth straight game.

JACKSONVILLE, Florida-- The Suns posted their second shutout in three games and earned their sixth consecutive victory, beating the Chattanooga Lookouts, 6-0. Justin Ruggiano hit a three-run home run in the second inning, giving the Suns a 4-0 advantage. Joel Guzman slammed a solo home run in the third inning and Guzman walked with the bases loaded in the eighth. Starter Chad Billingsley (9-6) earned the victory, pitching seven shutout innings. He allowed three singles, the last, in the seventh, was the only hit that reached the outfield. Suns starting pitchers have allowed two runs over the last 42 innings and did not give up a run over 21 innings in the three-game series sweep. William Juarez (5-4, 4.44 ERA) is scheduled to face West Tenn Diamond tonight.

VERO BEACH, Florida-- Cole Bruce hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 win in the first game and four Dodgers homered in the nightcap to give Vero Beach a 14-5 victory and a doubleheader sweep over the Daytona Cubs.
The Dodgers trailed 2-0 after the first inning and it stayed that way until the bottom of the final inning, the seventh. Matt Kemp led off the inning with a double. Anthony Raglani walked and Bruce slugged the game-winning home run (#11). Danny Mugge worked six strong innings, allowing two runs, before Brian Pilkington (7-7) pitched the seventh to earned the win.
The Dodgers jumped into a lead quickly in the second game when Cory Dunlap stroked a two-run homer (#4) in the first inning and they put the game out of reach in the second. Raglani led off with a double and Travis Denker walked. Edwin Bellorin and Jimmy Rohan followed with back-to-back doubles, making it 5-0. One out later Chin-lung Hu singled in Rohan and Matt Kemp reached on a fielder's choice. Dunlap walked, Bruce singled and Raglani drilled a grand slam home run (#13) to make it 10-0. Kemp added a 2-run homer the next inning for his league-leading 23rd. Denker led off the fourth with a solo shot, his second in Vero Beach and 23rd overall this year. Raglani doubled in Bruce after a walk in the 5th to cap the scoring. Raglani finished 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and 5 RBI. Matt Merricks worked into the third inning and allowed four runs. Casey Hoorelbeke (8-1) took over and earned the win in relief.

AUGUSTA, Georgia-- Augusta defeated Columbus 5-3 in a rain-shortened contest. The GreenJackets took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Catfish left the tying run on base in the sixth before rain made the field unplayable. It rained through much of the game and the teams combined to walk a total of 16 batters, eight by each team. RHP Dimas Reina (0-3) walked eight in four plus innings, including five in the bottom of the first inning to fall behind 2-0. In the third, three walks and a 3B Blake DeWitt two-run single tied the game. In the top of the fifth inning, Reina gave up a hit and two walks and departed the game with the bases full. LHP Chad Bailey gave up a two-run single and the GreenJackets scored again later in the inning to make it 5-2. Catcher Gabriel Gutierrez drove home a run in the sixth with a single. RHP Blake Johnson (9-3, 3.09 ERA) starts tonight for the Fish.

OGDEN, Utah-- The Raptors broke a five game losing streak by beating the Billings Mustangs by a score of 8-3 with five Raptors enjoying multi-hit games. Jesus Soto scored on a David Sutherland sac fly to tie the game 1-1 in the first. In the 4th, BJ Richmond and Jason Mooneyham hit two out singles and scored when Juan Apodaca singled to tie the game again 2-2. The Raptors scored three runs on three hits in the sixth. Ivan De Jesus, who was playing in his first game after being called up from the Gulf Coast Dodgers, singled and scored on a triple by Sutherland. Russ Mitchell drove in Sutherland to make the score 5-3. Sutherland, playing in front of his parents from Australia, slugged a solo homer to finish the night 2-for-4 with three RBI. Juan Apodaca was 3-for-4 with a RBI while B.J. Richmond and Jason Mooneyham had two hits each. John Meloan started and worked three innings. David Pfieffer (5-3) pitched four innings of relief to earn the win. Mario Alvarez (3-2, 6.27 ERA) is scheduled to start tonight.

MELBOURNE, Florida-- The Gulf Coast Dodgers banged out a dozen hits to stop the Marlins 7-2 behind strong pitching. Arsmendy Castillo (1-2) started and worked five innings to earn the win. Adolfo Gonzalez, replacing Ivan DeJesus who was promoted to Ogden, singled twice and knocked in two runs. Carlos Santana also added two hits and two RBI. The Dodgers scored n the first on Gonzalez's sacrifice fly and they added two in the third to overcome a 2-1 Marlin lead on Santana's two-run single. Two more rolled across in the fourth to give the Dodgers a comfortable 5-2 lead. Eloy Gutierrez knocked in the first run with a bunt single and Trayvon Robinson's single scored the second run.
