Russ Martin Has Four RBI as 51s Wins 10th In A Row

Jacksonville won their 10th consecutive game, defeating West Tenn 6-2 behind three hits and four RBI from Russ Martin. Columbus three used homers, the last by Sergio Pedroza in the 10th, to stop Charleston 5-4 and Ogden's BJ Richardson knocked in the winning run in the 11th with a long fly to beat Great Falls. Scott Erickson lost his third straight start as Tucson dumped Las Vegas 7-2, Palm Beach beat Vero 8-4 despite Xavier Paul's fifth home run and the Coasties had the day off.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada-- The Dodgers Scott Erickson (0-3) and the Diamondbacks Oscar Villarreal met in rehab assignments and Tucson defeated Las Vegas 7-2. Erickson lost for the third time in as many starts, yielding six runs -- five earned -- in 7.2 innings. The 14-year Major League veteran walked two and struck out three. The 51s finally got on the board in the eighth, courtesy of a two-run double by pinch-hitter Cody Ross that scored Chin-Feng Chen and Mike Nixon. JACKSONVILLE, Florida-- The Suns won their 10th consecutive game by defeating the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 6-2. Trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning, Russell Martin and Tydus Meadows lined back-to-back RBI singles to give the Suns a 3-2 advantage. Martin extended the Suns lead in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run triple and the Suns added another run in eighth inning from an error that allowed Martin to score. Starter Justin Orenduff went three had a no-decision. Carlos Alvarez (4-0) earned the win, tossing two shutout innings. Luis Gonzalez also pitched two scoreless innings and Eric Hull pitched two more to pick up his third save of the season. The Suns' winning streak is the longest since 1998. C Russell Martin was 4-for-4 and has 12 hits in his last 20 at-bats. Chad Billingsley (9-6, 4.07 ERA) is scheduled to oppose the Mississippi Braves Tuesday.

VERO BEACH, Florida-- Palm Beach beat Vero Beach 8-4, handing the Dodgers back-to-back losses for the first time since the first week of July. Xavier Paul had two hits including his fifth home run. Starter Brian Pilkington allowed a three-run homer to the third batter of the first inning but Vero rallied with back-to-back RBI doubles from Matt Kemp and Cory Dunlap to make it 3-2. Paul's home run led off the third and tied the score. Vero Beach left the bases full in both the 3rd and 5th innings, before Palm Beach regained the lead in the seventh off Jumbo Diaz, who took the loss on an unearned run, the first run he had surrendered in 8 appearances this year. The Cardinals put it away with a four-run 8th inning to snap the Dodgers 8-series win streak.

CHARLESTON, SC-- RF Sergio Pedroza hit a game-winning solo home run (#8) in the tenth inning to lead the Catfish to a 5-4, 10-inning victory, their third in a row. DH Chris Westervelt had the only Catfish hit in the first six innings, a solo home run (#4) in the second and in the seventh, and LF Ryan Carter hit a mammoth two-run home run (#7) to pad the Catfish lead to 3-0. Chris Malone started for the Fish and while Charleston had runners on base in each inning, Malone induced three double plays and struck out two consecutive batters in the sixth inning with runners in scoring position to preserve a Catfish lead. Jordan Pratt gave up a three-run home run to tie the game in the eighth and SS Dominique Laurin doubled home CF Steven Sapp to break an 0-for-34 slump and again tie the game in the ninth. Albenis Castillo earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth for his tenth save in as many opportunities. The Fish send Dimas Reina (0-3, 5.40 ERA) in search of a sweep over Charleston tonight.

OGDEN, Utah-- Jesus Soto scored on a sac fly by BJ Richmond in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Ogden a 7-6 victory over the Great Falls White Sox to evens the four game series at one apiece. Adam Godwin scored in the second inning on a single by Andrew Locke to tie the game at 1-1 but then he White Sox took a 5-1 lead. The Raptors came back as Locke drove in Jason Mooneyham and Russ Mitchell to cut the lead to 5-3. Rotsen Gil hit a solo homer (#1) and Godwin hit his first home run the next inning to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the 11th, Soto lead off with a single, went to third on a Mooneyham single and Godwin was intentionally walked to load the bases before Richmond pinch hit and drove in the winning run when Soto slid underneath the tag at the plate. Cory Wade allowed five runs in six innings and Ramon Troncoso (5-1) earned the win.
