Vegas Win Powered By Four Home Runs

Las Vegas banged four home runs to top Portland and Vero Beach pitchers allowed one run in 11 innings to stop Brevard 8-5. Jacksonville's errors cost them a 6-3 decision at Montgomery, Ogden remained in a first-place tie after a doubleheader split losing 4-0 and winning 5-0 and the GC Dodgers won 2-0 over the Nationals. Columbus had a day off.

PORTLAND, Oregon-- A seventh-inning grand slam by Brian Myrow, one of four round trippers by the 51s during the evening, dropped the Portland Beavers 10-3. Portland led 2-0 before Delwyn Young hit a towering solo homer to put the 51s on the board. They put the game away with a five-run seventh that began with an RBI-single from Jason Grabowski and ended with a four-run shot by Myrow that put Las Vegas on top, 8-3. Mike Rose belted a two-run homer earlier and Cody Ross' two-run shot in the ninth put the game out of reach. Scott Erickson started and earned his first win for Las Vegas. Eric Stults (3-5, 6.38) starts tonight in the second game of the five-game series.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama-- Jacksonville could not overcome four unearned runs and lost 7-5 to Montgomery. A bases-loaded double after an inning-ending double play misfired cost three runs. The Suns trailed, 6-3, and it marked the first time the team has trailed by three runs since August 5. Starter Eric Hull (7-6) took the loss. He gave up six runs and eight hits in five innings. The Biscuits also added a run in the eighth when a dropped line drive killed another inning-ending double play. Jon Weber drove in four runs, adding game-tying single in the third inning and a two-out, two-run double in the fourth which brought the Suns to within 6-5. Carlos Alvarez pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings for the Suns. Former Suns Ruddy Lugo retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his first save. Justin Orenduff (5-1, 4.03 ERA) is scheduled to start against Biscuits.:

MELBOURNE, Florida-- The Vero Beach Dodgers overcame an early 5-0 deficit and rallied to beat Brevard County in 12 innings Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Dodgers picked up a pair of runs in the seventh and then scored three in the eighth to tie the game. The tying runs came off former Dodger Ben Diggins in the seventh. Rohan reached on an error and scored on A.J. Ellis' homer (#3) in the seventh. Mayke Cabrera and Xavier Paul walked in the eighth. Chin-lung Hu, who had three hits, doubled to drive in Cabrera, knocking Diggins out of the box. Cory Dunlap's ground out scored Paul and Matt Kemp's single tied the game 5-5. In the 12th, Hu singled and Kemp was hit by a pitch. Anthony Raglani doubled to drive in Hu but Kemp was thrown out at home. Then Rohan homered (#3) to ice the cake. Jarod Plummer allowed four runs in the first inning and a single run in the fourth. He added two scoreless innings before the bullpen took over and did a spectacular job, adding eight more zeros. Justin Simmons (2), Jumbo Diaz (2), Mark Alexander, the eventual winner (5-3) and Kyle Wilson came in to pitch the final inning to earn his sixth save.

GREAT FALLS, Montana-- The Raptors lost the first game of a doubleheader 5-0 to the Great Falls White Sox. The game was a continuation of Tuesday night's suspended game that was rained out. The game resumed in the top of the fifth with the Raptors trailing 1-0 and they eventually lost 5-0. Game two saw Raptors left hander Brent Leach pitch a gem by throwing six shutout innings while striking out nine. Shane Justis and Kengshill Pujols provided key hits while the Raptors finished off the White Sox in a seven inning game 4-0. Today is a day off for the Raptors but they return to action Friday vs. potential playoff opponent Casper.

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida-- The Gulf Coast League Dodgers won a 2-0 decision over the Nationals behind Charles Dasni's first win of the season and Eduardo Quintana's first save. Eduardo Perez doubled and scored on Mitch Ayer's single in the third. Eloy Gutierrez drove in the seventh inning run. Kalen Gearhart started and worked two scoreless innings. Dasni (1-5) allowed two hits over the next five to earn the win. Juan Flores pitched the eighth and loaded the bases before Quintana came in to get the final out and work a scoreless ninth for the save.
