Wunsch Accepts Minor League Deal

Kelly Wunsch, who came to spring training as a non-roster invitee, then made the Dodger pitching staff, is going to try the same scenario again as he has accepted a minor league contract.

A onetime ace of the White Sox bullpen before shoulder surgery, Wunsch had a solid spring after signing with the Dodgers as a minor league free agent in December 2004.

He won the job as the situational lefty and was doing well (1-1, 4.56 in 45 games ) before an ankle injury put him on the disabled list. It required surgery which ended his season, after which he was designated for assignment.

He was offered a minor league deal at that time but declined to become a free agent.

However, after testing the market he's decided the Dodgers are the team to be with after all, so signed the deal which includes an invitation to train with the major league team just as it did this past spring.

As a rookie with the White Sox in 2000, Wunsch led the American League in appearances with 83.

He went on to pitch in all or parts of five seasons with the Sox, compiling a 10-5, 3.64 overall record.

A sidearmer, Wunsch is now 33 years old.
