LHP Brent Leach -- Prospect #37

Eighteenth in a series on the top Dodger prospects as we count down to the very best.

Position- Starting Pitcher
Residence- Brandon, Miss.
DOB- Nov. 18, 1982
Wt.- 205
B/T- L/L
05 Club- Ogden (Rookie)

Leach is a lefthander who had Tommy John surgery while in college, then came back to pitch well enough for Delta State to be selected in the sixth round of the 2005 draft as a draft-eligible sophomore.
He then had a strong season for Ogden with his 2.31 ERA good enough to lead the Pioneer League. He has a fast ball that generally stays in the 88-92 mph range and secondary pitches that are still very much a work in progress.

It all comes out of a deceptive delivery that batters find tough to solve as he held them to a .227 average while striking out 77 in 66.2 innings. He has a body that promises future development as well.

Spring training will determine if he'll pitch at Columbus or Vero Beach in 2006.
