Darren Dreifort Announces Retirement

Dreifort a former first round draft pick demonstrated his talents but could never overcome injuries long enough to put together a lengthy string of accomplishments. He ended his major league career, all with the Dodgers, with a 48-60, 4.36 record, including 274 games, 11 saves and 802 strikeouts in 873 innings. His final season, 2004, saw him strike out 63 in 50.2 innings, an 11.19 Ks per nine innings.

Dodger Blue Notes-- Eric Gagne surprised onlookers by unveiling a slider during a brief stint of batting practice. …Phil Rizzo, who has been in baseball for more than 40 years, has been hired as a major league scout. …Manager Grady Little said Thursday Derek Lowe will start the April 3 season opener against Atlanta at Dodger Stadium. It will mark Lowe's second opening-day start in two seasons since he joined the club as a free agent. Lowe will be followed in the Braves series by Brad Penny and Odalis Perez.
