Cory Wade's First Start Results in 9-3 win

Delwyn Young had four hits and a pair of RBI but Las Vegas was pounded 13-8 at Salt Lake. Catcher A.J. Ellis pitched the final three innings and finally allowed a run in the 14th as Jacksonville dropped a 6-5 game in Birmingham. Scott Elbert finally got run support and won his first against three losses, 9-3 at Daytona. Cory Wade made his first start for Columbus a winning one, allowing two hits in five as the Fish won 7-2 at Augusta.

SkySox Roll-- D.L. Houlton had his first bad game of the season, being hammered for 11 runs on nine hits before leaving the game in the fifth as Colorado Springs hung a 13-8 loss on the 51s, who a leaking ballplayers to the Dodgers on a steady basis.

James Loney was sent up when Nomar Garciaparra could not open the season but he's back now and slugging the ball. Then in a 24-hour period outfielder Andre Ethier and pitchers Joe Beimel and Jonathan Broxton were put on a plane with Hong-Chih Quo and Lance Carter making the return trip. Friday the call came for catcher Russell Martin after Dioner Navarro was sidelined for 15-days by a bad bone bruise on his arm from a foul tip.

Colorado Springs collected 15 hits, including four home runs, while running up an early 11-4 margin.

Houlton lost his fourth game of the season without a win.

Delwyn Young carried most of the load for Las Vegas, contributing an RBI single in the first, a single and a run i the third and singled and a run-scoring double in the ninth.

Suns Set After 14 Innings-- Birmingham came up with a bases-loaded single in the last of the 14th to drop Jacksonville 6-5 in a four-hour, twenty-one minute marathon in Alabama.

The game saw five lead changes and featured ten pitchers, including Suns catcher A.J. Ellis pitching the final three innings -- and quite well, too -- to rescue an empty bullpen.

The Suns took the lead in the sixth when Justin Ruggiano belted his second homerun of the season, a three run shot over the left field wall to give Jacksonville a 5-3 lead.

Two runs scored on two hits and two errors in the eighth, tying the game at 5-5.

The Suns had opportunities to win earlier. With Matt Kemp on first base with two out in the tenth inning, Craig Brazell slugged a ball a shot off of the centerfield warning track and out of the ballpark for a ground rule double to put men on second and third. Andy LaRoche then lined out to centerfield to end the threat.

In the 12th inning Kemp advances from second to third on a fly ball and when the relay was fumbled, attempted to score but was nailed at the plate.

And in the 14th inning, Brian Sprout led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Wilkin Ruan but could advance no further.

Joel Hanrahan started but worked only two innings and allowing two runs. Carlos Alvarez gave up an unearned run in his four innings but Greg Miller was tagged for a pair of runs in the eighth, the first runs he has allowed this season. Mark Alexander (two shutout innings) and Ellis finished up.

Between them all, they stranded 17 Barons on base.

Elbert, DeWitt Lead Dodgers-- Blake DeWitt hit his first home run of the season and Scott Elbert earned his first win in a 9-3 win at Daytona as the Dodgers split their four games with the Cubs.

Dave Nicholson, Travis Denker and DeWitt each knocked in a pair of runs, DeWitt smacking his first home run of the season.

Elbert allowed a season-high three runs, but pitched well enough to earn his first Florida State League win against three losses. However, the Dodgers had scored just seven runs in his first five starts. Brian Akin threw three scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the year.

Trailing 1-0, the Dodgers took advantage of a wild third inning to go on top. Jamie Hoffman and Gabriel Gutierrez drew back-to-back walks and when Ryan Russ then squared to bunt, but was hit on the hand.

He was awarded first base and David Nicholson was also hit by a pitch to force in tying run. An error scored two more. Travis Denker's sac fly drove in the fourth run, all without a hit.

Vero added three in the fourth on a Gutierrez sac fly, a two-run single by Russ and a single from Nicholson. DeWitt homered in the seventh.

Catfish Dump Augusta-- Columbus picked up a pair of runs in the first, fourth and fifth inning, then held on for a 7-3 win. Cory Wade made his first start a solid one, allowing two hits and a single run over five innings. Jesus Rodriguez added three perfect innings to the win.

Sergio Pedroza slugged his sixth home run, a two-run shot in the -- inning. Catcher Tony Harper banged out three hits and added an RBI.

Pedroza got things off the ground quickly, homering with Ivan De Jesus on base with a single in the first inning. In the fourth, Russell Mitchell walked, Dave Sutherland singled and Eduardo Perez added an RBI single. Harper's single loaded the bases and a force play accounted for the other run.

In the fifth, a ground ball drove in the first run and Harper singled in the other. Andrew Locke's RBI singles drove in the final run in the ninth.
