DeWitt, Bastardo Player, Pitcher of the Week

Each week will salute Dodger minor league players for outstanding performances.

Blake DeWitt, 2b. Vero Beach-- Through all the losing Vero has been enduring, DeWitt has been rather quietly doing some strong hitting. The week of May 7-13, he extended his hit streak to 14 games before it was halted Saturday night. During the week he pounded out 12 hits in 29 at-bats including four doubles and a home run. He had five multi-hit games in that stretch. He's now batting .314-2-14 for the season, leading his team in every major department.

Alberto Bastardo, Vero Beach-- The lefthander drafted from the Orioles in December continued his exceptional pitching in his first start since moving up to Vero with seven scoreless innings against Lakeland in which he allowed only one hit, a double, while striking out seven and not walking a man. He had finished up at Columbus May 8 with five innings against Kannapolis in which he gave up only three hits and one unearned run. He wound up 3-1, 1.39 for the Catfish before moving up. He's the first double Pitcher of the Week winner so far. Previous winners:
