Player, Pitcher of the Week

Each week salutes a player and a pitcher from the Dodger minor league system for outstanding accomplishments. Players chosen from the Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Vero Beach and Columbus teams for the ninth week are--

Eric Riggs, 3b, Las Vegas- Riggs returned to the Dodger system after being picked up from an independent league team. Taking over the third base job, he batted an even .500 for the week with 12 hits in 24 at-bats including a grand-slam home run and two doubles. He drove in six runs in all Riggs is now hitting .421 for the 13 games in which he's played.

Casey Hoorelbeke, rhp, Jacksonville- The sidearming 6-8 righthander continued his remarkable work in relief for the Suns by appearing in three games in which he pitched 4.2 innings, giving up no runs while earning two saves. Hoorelbeke has now pitched 34.2 innings in which he's given up only a single earned run for an 0.26 ERA. During that stretch he's struck out 27 while yielding only 11 walks. Used both as a set-up man and a closer, he now has five saves.
