Catfish Maul Braves to Win Final Series

Las Vegas dropped their sixth in succession despite home runs by James Loney, Delwyn Young and -- Riggs. Columbus ended the first half with an 8-5 win over league-leading Rome, scoring six times in the seventh inning. Sergio Pedroza's double put the Fish in front to stay. Both Jacksonville and Vero Beach had an open date.

51s Sliding Down--Salt Lake's 8-5 victory handed Las Vegas their sixth loss in succession and they watched a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning slip away.

The 51s, stripped of many of their players by injuries in Los Angeles, dipped to 37-34 in the Pacific Coast League standings.

Starter Joel Hanrahan worked the first six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, leaving with having thrown 118 pitches and holding a 5-4 lead.

Kelly Wunsch, working in relief, gave up four runs on four hits, two walks and a wild pitch through 1.2 innings.

Las Vegas (37-34) held a 5-3 in the fifth after James Loney and Delwyn Young hit back-to-back homers.

The 51s banged out 14 hits with Young going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Cesar Izturis was 2-for-5 and Loney, Riggs and Ed Bellorin had a pair of hits each.

Vero Beach-- First baseman Cole Bruce singled in two trips to the plate and Scott Elbert worked a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out a pair but their East All-Starts lost a 7-4 contest.

Catfish Stop Rome-- Columbus (37-33) ended the first half of the season defeating the first place Rome Braves (42-28) 8-5 two of three games in the series. RHP Cory Wade (4-2, 3.73) worked five innings allowing six hits, three runs, one walk and striking out five in the no decision.

RHP James McDonald (2-4, 3.58) was credited for the win with two innings pitched allowing no hits and striking out five in his relief appearance and Ramon Troncoso earned his fourth save.

The Catfish turned four double plays to make life easier for the pitching staff.

Manager Travis Barbary, OF Drew Locke, IF Russ Mitchell, RHP Cory Wade, and LHP Marlon Arias will represent Columbus at the 47th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game in Eastlake, Ohio on Tuesday before the Catfish come home for a four game home stand against the Savannah Sand Gnats.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead into the third inning before SS Shane Justis smacked his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

The Braves would added another run in the fifth but the Fish blew the game open in the seventh.

With the bases jammed, CF Adam Godwin single to drive in DH David Sutherland and 2B Travis Denker's force out scored C Tony Harper and deadlocked the game 3-3. A two-run double by RF Sergio Pedroza and 1B Jason Mooneyham's single plus a pair of throwing errors gave Columbus six runs and a 7-3 lead
