Mattingly, Lundberg Player, Pitcher of Week

Each week salutes a player and pitcher in the Dodger organization for outstanding accomplishments. The players are chosen from Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Vero Beach, Columbus, Ogden and the Gulf Coast Dodgers. Those honored for the week of July 2-8 are:

Preston Mattingly, ss, Gulf Coast Dodgers- The Dodgers' supplemental first-round choice in the June draft is wasting little time getting acclimated to pro ball. This past week he hit .455 (10 for 22) including a double, driving in four runs in the process. That raised his average to .333 with nine RBI in the 12 games in which he's played.

Spike Lundberg, rhp, Jacksonville- Spike didn't have success during his stay at Las Vegas but he came back to Jacksonville to pick up where he left off with an outstanding effort July 8. Pitching against Carolina in the first game of a doubleheader, he went eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, walking only one while striking out five. For the season, Spike is 7-1 for the Suns with a 2.18 ERA.
