Ethier is batting .352 with six home runs and 32 RBI in 59 games this season and leads all National League rookies in batting average, on-base percentage (.403), slugging percentage (.545) and outfield assists (5). He is tied for seventh among NL rookies in home runs and ranks eighth in RBI.
The Arizona State graduate was acquired on December 13, 2005 from the Oakland Athletics, where he had spent the past three seasons in their minor league system. Last year, he was the Texas League Player of the Year after posting 18 homers and 80 RBI for Double-A Midland. Ethier was called up on May 2 of this season after hitting .349 in 25 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Ethier becomes the second Dodger to earn the National League Player of the Week honor this season, following Nomar Garciaparra who shared the award with Albert Pujols for the week of May 8-14.
