Brazell, Kuo - Player, Pitcher of the Week

Each week salutes a player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding accomplishments during the past week. This week, those chosen from Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Vero Beach, Columbus , Ogden and the Gulf Coast Dodgers-

Craig Brazell, 1b, Jacksonville-- With a deep bow toward Ogden's Josh Bell for his four homers in two days barrage, the player who was most productive during the week of July 30-Aug. 5 was Brazell, the former New York Met playing first for Jacksonville. He racked up 12 hits in 22 at-bats, including four doubles and three home runs in his barrage. That drove in 11 runs. He's now leading the Southern League with 80 RBI while hitting .267 with 18 home runs.

Hong-Chi Kuo--, lhp, Las Vegas- Kuo was switched from the bullpen to starting in order to get better command of his pitches. It's certainly worked so far. On July 31, he went five scoreless innings against Iowa, giving up five hits and striking out five while walking only one in a 4-0 victory. On Aug. 5, he did it again- five shutout innings against Oklahoma giving up just four hits, again walking only a single batter while striking out five. Unfortunately, the bullpen lost this one 5-0. For the week, then, Kuo has 10 innings without allowing a run, giving up nine hits, striking out 10 and walking only two. On the season for the 51's, he's now 2-3, 3.93 with 40 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.
