Raptors Dumped bY Orem-- First-place Orem pounded out plenty of hits and got help from Ogden fielders as they rolled to a 15-7 victory. The Owlz racked up 16 hits as they climbed on Josh Wall (3-3) for seven runs in four innings with only three of those earned.

Dodgers edged-- The Gulf Coast Dodgers might well heed Satchel Paige's warning, "Don't look over your shoulder. Somebody might be gaining on you." as for the second time in as many days, they were edged by a run, losing to the Mets 2-1.

That defeat, coupled with a Marlins win over the Nationals, cut their margin in the East Division to 2 1/2 games.

A home run by rehabbing A. J. Zapp put the Dodgers up in the first inning but that was all they were to get of Kevin Deaton, a rehab himself down from AA, plus three relievers.

The Mets scored both their runs in the second. The first came home on a sacrifice fly, then with runners on first and third, catcher A. J. Anthony made an ill-advised throw to second on a steal attempt. Not only did he fail to get the runner there, the man from third raced home with what proved to be enough for the win.

Dodger starter Mike Gardner ( 2-1) pitched a commendable game after that, going seven innings , allowing only four hits. Kyle Smit came off the injured list (back spasms) to throw two scoreless.

The Dodgers had their best chance with men on first and second and two out in the eighth. Brian Mathews hit a scorching shot but was denied a hit by a leaping grab by the shortstop.

Mathews, Zapp and Jovanny Rosario all had two hits for the Dodgers. -Bill Shelley
