Mattingly, Nunez - Player, Pitcher of Week

Preston Mattingly, ss, Gulf Coast Dodgers- Mattingly , the Dodgers supplemental first-round draft choice in June, had been in a slump recently but he emerged in a big way. In his past 17 at-bats, he stroked eight hits including four doubles and a triple . That boosted his average back to .288 with 20 runs batted in for the season.

Jhonny Nunez, rhp, Gulf Coast Dodgers- Nunez pitched seven shutout innings against the Marlins, Aug. 11, as the Dodgers turned back their closest rivals in the East Division 5-0. He struck out nine while walking only one in winning his sixth game without a loss this season and extending his scoreless innings string to 16 straight. He now sports a 1.62 ERA as in 50 innings, he's walked only 18 while striking out 48.
