McDonald, Kemp - Pitcher and Hitter of Week

Each week salutes a player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding accomplishments over the past seven days. The players selected for the week of Aug. 27 through Sept. 2 from Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Vero Beach, Columbus and Ogden are:

Matt Kemp, of, Las Vegas. Kemp was doing a whole lot of hitting just before being called back up to the parent Dodgers. In 19 at-bats, he pounded out 12 hits, a .631 average that included two doubles. He was then recalled on Sept. 1. His Las Vegas numbers before departing were .368-3-36.

James McDonald, rhp, Columbus. McDonald made two superb starts against Charleston. On Aug. 27, he allowed only a single over eight innings in which he walked only one while striking out nine. He left in a scoreless game which the Catfish lost in ninth, 1-0. He came back to go the distance on September 1, giving up only three hits in a 3-0 victory, walking two while striking out 10. For the week, he threw 17 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out 18. For the season he's 5-10, 3.98 with 146 strikeouts in 142 innings.
