Jacksonville Goes Three and Out

Third baseman Evan Longoria slugged a two-out, two-run home run Saturday night to top Jacksonville 2-0 and give the Biscuits the South Division Championship in the Southern League.

The blast broke up a tight pitching duel between Montogmery's Mitch Talbot and the Suns RH T.J. Nall. Talbot struck out a season-high 14 in his complete game victory, and took a perfect game into the sixth inning before Chin-Lung Hu singled to left.

Nall struck out eight Biscuits through his eight innings, while allowing a total of three hits. Mark Alexander allowed a single and the game-winning home run in the last of the ninth and was tagged with the season-ending loss.

Jacksonville came into the ninth with only two hits but had a shot to break the scoreless tie in the top of the ninth inning when Jimmy Rohan singled with one out, Tony Abreu singled him to second and when Tydus Meadows singled to leftfield, Rohan was thrown out at the plate by former Dodger minor leaguer Justin Ruggiano.

Suns closer Mark Alexander took over in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a one-out single to Johnny Raburn, Alexander then fanned Ruggiano on a strike three wild pitch but Raburn moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Brad Cresse.

Longoria then crushed a pitch deep over the leftfield wall to end the game, the Southern Division playoffs and the Jacksonville season.

The Suns finished a remarkably successful season with an 86-54 record, tying the Suns best record in history, drew 404,992 fans and saw manager John Shoemaker win his 1,000th Dodger minor league game.
