Loons to Play On Dow Diamond

When the team to be known as the Great Lakes Loons takes the field this spring they'll be doing it in a brand-new ball park, one that now as a name as well. The Dow Chemical Corporation has purchased the naming rights for the facility which henceforth will be called The Dow Diamond.

It's a natural association for Dow's plant is located outside Midland, Mich. where the team is based also. And the Dow logo is a red diamond.

The park, which will open for the first time in April, will seat 5,500 and includes 12 luxury suites. The franchise is operated by the Michigan Baseball Federation, a non-profit organization. They took over from Ivy Walls Management which had the team in its previous existance in Battle Creek, Mich.

Then it was known as Southwest Michigan and was a franchise of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. When the new group opted to go with the Dodgers, the D-Rays switched their low A affiliation to Columbus Ga., the location vacated by the Dodgers
