Ortiz has the size and a smooth lefthanded swing that strongly suggests the possibility of his becoming a long-ball threat in the years to come. He also possesses athleticism and generally plays first base very well, particularly at saving errant throws with a long reach and ability to scoop balls out of the dirt.

There were times, though, that he seemed confused both at the plate and in the field. As time went on, pitchers in his division solved him rather than the other way around. What he obviously needs is a lot of work. If he's able to learn and adjust, he could be a formidable force. If he can't, then he's just another guy with the looks of a player without truly becoming one.

He could move up to Ogden in 2007 but another year in the Gulf Coast League probably wouldn't hurt, either.
