Prospect #52 - Drew Locke

We are currently taking a look at the top prospects in the Dodger system. Here's another as we count down to the very best.

Position- Outfield
Residence- Weymouth, Mass.
DOB- Feb 23, 1983
Ht- 6-1
B/T- R/R
How Obtained- Drafted in the 19th round 2005
06 Clubs- Columbus (South Atlantic), Vero Beach (Florida State)

Locke has been a mild surprise in his two seasons. In 2005, he displayed a type of power that he hadn't been credited with during his collegiate days at Boston College while this past year he hit well at two stops.

At Columbus, he was one of the better hitters in the league at .325-8-50 so was pushed up to Vero Beach in the middle of the year. There he started slowly but steadily improved to wind up at .286-7-39.

He has quick wrists to drive the ball solidly with some juice. He's more than adequate in the field. although his arm is only average.

So far, he's been better than a 19th round draft pick normally should be but he should get his big test in 2007 when he moves up to Jacksonville. If he can deliver there, he'll continue to climb on the lists.
