Prospect #50 - Tommy Giles is currently taking a look at the top prospects in the Dodger farm system. Here's another as we count down to the very best.

How Obtained- Drafted in the eighth round 2006
06 Club- Ogden (Pioneer)

Giles is a native of Vero Beach so he grew up with the Dodgers, serving as their batboy during spring training and in a similar capacity for the Vero Beach Dodgers during some summers.

He didn't get drafted out of either high school or junior college though so planned on a career as a commercial pilot. However, he began to blossom with the University of Miami, enough so the Dodgers took him in the eighth round last June. He has his private pilot's license but that career is on hold for now.

He took some time off after signing so reported late to Ogden. There he started slowly but came on and got a lot more playing time as he produced. He's a line drive hitter with only occasional power . His speed is a bit above average and he has both the quickness and arm strength to fill any outfield position.

In all he looks like one who could be a valuable role player as he moves up. He could be with either of the two new farm teams- Great Lakes or Inland Empire- in 2007.
