Prospect #49 -- Garrett White

Ladugout.com is taking a look at some of the top prospects in the Dodger system. Here's another as we count down to the very best.

Name- GARRETT WHITE
Position- Relief Pitcher
Residence- Round Rock, Tex.
DOB- May 2, 1984
Ht-6-5
Wt-235
B/T- L/L
How Obtained- Drafted in sixth round 2006
06 Club- Ogden (Pioneer)

White was a dominant closer at Ole Miss but had his problems at Ogden where he was used mostly as a set-up man. His record was shabby- 1-3, 7.62 but that was mostly because of two horrible games against Billings. Most of the other times he was effective.

He's a power lefty who throws hard and throws strikes. In 28.1 innings, he struck out 40 batters while walking only 14. He smoothed out some matters in the fall Instructional League with encouraging results.

The Dodgers hope he can be a situational lefty and he would seem to have the ability to do just that. He'll pitch for either Great Lakes or Inland Empire in 2007.
