Prospect #46 - Ramon Troncoso

LAdugout is taking a look at the top prospects in the Dodger system. Here's another as we count down to the very best.

Position- Relief Pitcher
Residence- San Jose de Ocoa, D.R.
DOB- Feb. 16, 1983
Ht- 6-7
B/T- R/R
How Obtained- Signed as a free agent 2002
06 Clubs- Vero Beach (Florida State), Columbus (South Atlantic)

For the second year in a row Troncoso had trouble as he tried to move up two levels, was dropped back one, there to find himself with some very good work as a closer.

In 2005 it was up to Columbus, then back to Ogden where he posted 13 saves.

In 2006, he first tried Vero Beach with little luck, then came back to Columbus, this time for 15 saves.

He's tall and rangy with pitches that are tick above average. What does it for him is movement as his pitches jump around. In his first try at Vero Beach, they were dipping out of the strike zone so he was often behind on the count with the resultant bad effects.

He found a groove at Columbus, though, to earn another trial at Vero toward the end of the season. This time he had four scoreless outings.

In all, he struck out 53 batters in 63 innings. He'll probably start 2007 at Inland Empire, the new farm team in the California League.
