Leach led the Pioneer League in ERA is his rookie season and started 2006 quite well at Columbus (4-2, 3.27 )where he started 10 games.

That got him promoted to Vero Beach where they decided to use him out of the bullpen and the results weren't the same.

In 30 games he slipped to 3-4, 4.56. There's one physical explanation for this for he had a skin rash that bothered his grip on the ball.

He was shut down, then came back but never quite seemed to get with it. In the Arizona Instructional League, though, he was over the problem and threw well again.

He relies on a moving fast ball that stays around 90 mph. It comes out of a deceptive delivery that is often tough for batters to solve.

They only hit .230 against him at Columbus and .265 at Vero Beach. In 101.2 innings he fanned 124.

They'll have to make a decision as to whether starting or relief is in everybody's best interest. He could be a tough lefthander if he's healthy and knows his role.

Depending upon his spring training showing, he could either make it to Jacksonville or start the year at Inland Empire .
