The way Orenduff was pitching last season it seemed he was soon to be in the big leagues. When he made it to Los Angeles, though, it wasn't to Dodger Stadium but rather to the Jobe-Kerlan Clinic. Deposits had been building up in his biceps area for some time and it was necesary to clean them out.

Before that he had been working very nicely at Jacksonville. When he was shut down he was 4-2 with a 3.40 ERA.

He achieves success with a fast ball that usually in the low 90's and a deadly slider that he relies on as his out pitch and which is particularly rough on righthanded hitters. He has good command- a 54-19 strikeouts to walk rate in 50 innings.

Since the operation didn't involve too much cutting and repairing, he should be ready to go again in spring training.

Depending on how quick he is to assume fulltime duty, he could be assigned to either Las Vegas or Jacksonville or even do some rehab stints at Inland Empire, the new California League affiliate.
