Dodger Prospect #7 Blake DeWitt is currently taking a look at the top prospects in the organization. Here's another as we count down to the very best.

Position Second/Third Base

There are times when Blake DeWitt looks like he'll be the best hitter for average in the organization. There are other times when he seems to get himself out. Both appearances were prevalent in 2006.

He had his hot streaks followed by the chilly ones. He compiled a .268 average at Vero Beach but managed only .183 at Jacksonville and didn't really come around in the Hawaii Winter League either.

He has perhaps the truest swing in the system. He gets it through the zone quickly  and is smooth at all times. His hands are quick. He gets into trouble when he doesn't stay back long enough.

He did show more muscle, hitting 18 home runs at Vero (and making the Florida State All-Star team in the process.) He lacks the size to post big power numbers but his production in that department should be steady. He's an average runner on the bases.

He was moved from third to second but often seemed uncomfortable there. He has good reactions at third and an adequate arm for that position.

He probably will start the 2007 season at Jacksonville. He could be an everyday player of quality in the big leagues with maturity.
